Roster/team/how we work together/how we divide our roles
By Ayush and Parent Mentor, Kaushika
I am going to talk about our roster,team/how we work together, and how we divide our roles.
In our robotics team our roster is Kazim, Astha, Ayush, Bakir, Sohan, Anand, Jons, Jaspreet, Nitya, Norbert and Sangeun.
With the guidance of our Parent Mentor, Ms. Kaushika, our team made a website/blog www.smithtechnoKnights.blogspot.com.
We are going to pass this website to other teams when we finish 8 grade. As some of our team members, like me, are only in 6th grade still.
Our team is from Smith Middle School, and our team number is 15256.
The way we work together is by helping our team with various tasks like programming, building, etc.
The way we divide our roles is we have a Teleop Subteam and an Autonomous Subteam. In the beginning we all worked on all the tasks so that we each had a chance to learn all the roles. Then in our subteams, we started spending more time on roles that we liked or were good at to help our team make more progress.
--------
--------
Some examples are that in the beginning Sohan, who is team leader for Teleop, had all of us on his team help with the basic program but then lately, Bakir and Sohan are teleop programers. Then Sangeun and Anand have helped give ideas to fix the basic program as well. Nitya, Jaspret and I are autonomous programers. But we also had Norbert and Kazim on our team learn the steps and help with the math calculations that our coach had us do to figure out how many rotations or how far we had to move to get to a certian postion on the field.
Lately, Anand and I are the Robot repair team and put on new wheels or change out parts when needed. But, Norbert and I are the pit crew before a driving test -- we check the robot and see if there is any loose screws. Sangeun, Anand and Nithya helped create the first prototypes over a couple of long nights in our mentors basement. They first had a small metal and plastic and duct tape basket that worked but could only really carry one mineral at a time, then they keep working on ideas and now they have a metal basket that was made from the final cardboard prototype that they taped up in the size they wanted that is the one we are using in our qualifier in Dec.
Bakir, Astha, Sunny and Norbert have been helping with the driving and testing of controllers. We all got the chance to learn how to drive and did some fun timed testing at Robot Garage a week ago and then our coaches helped pick the top four for training prep for qualifier.
Sunny designed our team logo and with our Parent Mentor's help we got t-shirts designed and ordered. Bakir designed our business card and our mentor helped tweak the layout and finalize them. Anand and Nithya will be leading our Open House with the help of our Mentor and then all of us are going to be doing different parts of the breakout sessions with our visitors on 11/28. Anand has helped lead some of our outreach projects and wrote up the debrief on our Bottle Drive project. Jons helps fix our Robot when screws and parts come loose and is working on other steps for our team.
As you can see there's so much that our team has to do each week so we find dividing roles now is best.
I hope you enjoy seeing how all of this and more is coming together for Techno Knights!
